The Business Model Canvas (BMC) is a strategic management and entrepreneurial tool that visually outlines the essential elements of how a business creates, delivers, and captures value. Developed by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur, it provides a one-page framework for designing, testing, and iterating business models.
The BMC divides a business model into nine interconnected blocks: Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, and Cost Structure. Together, these capture the logic of how an organization intends to operate and make profit. The model is typically filled out collaboratively on a large sheet or digital board, promoting clear communication and alignment.
