The Elysium Story

The Boy Who Rode Before Sunrise

The Life Journey of Sundaresh Kamaraj,
Founder, Elysium Groups

Business Mentor
Prologue

The Boy at Dawn

From a quiet village in Madurai, a young Sundaresh Kamaraj began his journey long before sunrise, delivering milk and newspapers to support his family. While others slept, he learned responsibility, discipline, and perseverance through hard work, carrying dreams far bigger than the bicycle he rode each morning.

What started as a boy helping his family grew into a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. Through determination, education, and an unwavering vision, he transformed a humble beginning into Elysium Groups a global enterprise spanning multiple companies, empowering over 300 professionals and positively impacting more than three lakh lives across 130+ countries.

"I did not start with money. I started with responsibility. Responsibility taught me everything money never could."

Chapter 1

Roots in the Soil

Sundaresh Kamaraj was born on 10 July 1977 in Madurai, the ancient temple city of Tamil Nadu. Coming from a lower-middle-class family rooted in a small agricultural village, he grew up understanding the value of hard work, resilience, and making every rupee count. His family’s simple life was shaped by farming, uncertain harvests, and the quiet dignity of people who worked tirelessly with little

Journey of Sundaresh Kamaraj - Early life and humble beginnings that shaped the journey of an aspiring entrepreneur

His father was a Radio and TV mechanic, and young Sundaresh often sat beside him as he repaired radios and television sets. Watching him patiently trace wires, identify faults, and bring broken devices back to life became Sundaresh’s first lesson in electronics. More importantly, it taught him a lifelong principle: every problem has a solution if you have the patience to trace it, understand it, and fix it.

A Debt of Gratitude: The Gifts of Appa and Amma

Every great building rests on a foundation no one sees. For Sundaresh, that foundation was his father and mother.

They had no degrees to hand down, no property to divide, no bank balance to leave behind. Yet they gave him something no inheritance could ever match. They never sat him down to lecture him on success — they simply lived it, quietly, every single day, in a small home where every rupee was counted and every hour was precious. And a watchful little boy absorbed it all.

Today, when he looks back across every milestone, he knows with complete certainty: none of it would exist without them. These are the gifts they placed in his hands.

The gift of technical work

His father taught him patience, precision, and the pride of solving problems with his own hands.

The gift of discipline

His parents taught him to rise early, work sincerely, and always finish what he started.

The Gift of Money Wisdom

Watching his parents manage limited means taught him to value every rupee and spend it wisely.

The Gift of Never Giving Up

His parents showed him that no hardship is greater than the determination to keep moving forward.

The Gift of Faith

“One Day, You Must Win” — Their unwavering belief in him became the confidence and fire that shaped his journey.

The Gift of Truth

“Hard Work Never Fails” — A simple family lesson became the foundation of more than 25 years of building Elysium.

Chapter 2

The Age of Thirteen

At the age of 13, while studying in 8th Standard at a Government High School, Sundaresh Kamaraj began delivering milk and newspapers to support his family. Starting his day at 5 AM, he balanced demanding work responsibilities with his education, demonstrating exceptional discipline and determination from an early age.

Despite the physical challenges and personal sacrifices, he remained committed to his studies and contributed his earnings to his family’s household expenses. These formative experiences instilled in him the values of perseverance, accountability, and hard work that later became the foundation of his entrepreneurial journey.

Chapter 3

The Counter in Front of Home

Sundaresh Kamaraj’s entrepreneurial journey began with a small neighbourhood business established in front of his home. While continuing his education, he operated a petty shop selling traditional Indian savouries, sweets, and soft drinks, alongside managing milk distribution in the surrounding area. Through dedication and careful time management, he sustained these ventures throughout his school and college years.

The business became his first practical lesson in entrepreneurship, teaching him customer relationship management, financial discipline, inventory management, and the importance of building trust. Balancing academic responsibilities with daily business operations, he developed the foundational skills and values that would later shape his vision and the growth of Elysium Groups.

Customer relationships

Remembering which child loved which sweet, who wanted their cool drink chilled, who needed credit till month-end, and who just needed a kind word.

Cash flow

How to buy stock without starving the household, and how to recover dues without losing goodwill.

Inventory and supply

Stocking savouries and sweets in just the right quantity, so nothing went stale and nothing ran out.

Trust

A neighbourhood shop survives only if people believe in the person behind the counter.

Chapter 4

Circuits and Classrooms

Inspired by his early exposure to electronics through his father’s radio repair work, Sundaresh Kamaraj pursued a Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering, followed by a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering through part-time study. Balancing his education with business responsibilities, he demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and professional development.

During his engineering studies, he worked part-time as a Computer Networking Tutor, supporting his education and family while strengthening his technical knowledge. This experience sparked his passion for teaching and laid the foundation for Elysium’s focus on technology education and skill development.

The Corporate Years

After completing his engineering education, Sundaresh began his professional journey as a Computer Network Engineer, stepping into the corporate world for the first time. Before joining the industry, he made the emotional decision to hand over his petty shop and milk distributorship, the businesses that had supported his family and shaped his entrepreneurial values. He later gained valuable experience in Network Architecture and Security through roles at Pioneer Groups and IBM Corporation, where he learned global standards of technology, security, process, and professionalism.

Corporate career years highlighting professional growth, technology and business experience

Although his corporate career was short but powerful, it gave him a broader perspective on technology and opportunity. At IBM, he witnessed how world-class organisations used networks and security to connect and protect businesses across the globe. Yet, despite professional success and a stable career, he remained concerned about the lack of technology education and exposure available to talented young people from Madurai and rural communities. This realization sparked a larger vision—bridging the gap between rural talent and global opportunities through education and skill development.

Chapter 6

The ₹20,000 Decision

In 1999, Sundaresh made a life-changing decision by leaving his secure corporate career and returning to his hometown with just ₹20,000. Despite having no investors, no business partners, no office, and no safety net, he believed that world-class technology services and education could be built from Madurai. Driven by determination and a vision for the future, he founded Elysium Technologies as a solopreneur, taking the first step toward building something meaningful from the ground up.

During the early days of Elysium Technologies, Sundaresh wore many hats founder, engineer, salesperson, trainer, accountant, and office administrator. He spent his days meeting potential clients and his nights preparing proposals, steadily building trust and opportunities one connection at a time. What others saw as ₹20,000 in capital, he saw as confidence, experience, and the courage to pursue a dream that would eventually create opportunities for thousands of people.

Chapter 7

Building Elysium, Brick by Brick

The early years of Elysium were a test of endurance. There were months when revenue barely covered rent, clients delayed payments, and projects demanded long nights of relentless work. Yet, the lessons of the petty shop remained strong — guard every rupee, value every customer and deliver every promise. Slowly, word spread across Madurai: there is someone who does it properly.

Elysium grew from a single employee into a team united by belief and vision. It empowered rural and first-generation talent with opportunities to grow and succeed. Evolving into Elysium Groups, it expanded into Tech Education, AI Solutions, and Skill Development. Through every challenge, its mission remained clear — create opportunities, transform lives, and open doors for others.

Students who needed industry-ready IT skills.

College learners who needed real project experience.

Research scholars who needed guidance and support.

Businesses that needed digital transformation and AI solutions.

Young innovators who needed a place to build embedded and AI products.

Communities that needed skill development to earn a better living.

Chapter 8

The Empire Today

More than 25 years after he returned home with ₹20,000, Elysium Groups stands as a ₹100 crore value enterprise built from Madurai, serving the world.

Behind every milestone are people whose lives have changed through education, technology and entrepreneurship. Since 1999, Elysium has supported three lakh customers and created opportunities for 300 employees and their families. The AI, Embedded and IoT Incubation Centre helps students turn ideas into businesses, while the Foundation supports communities and rural youth. Chapter 9

A Passport of Purpose

Entrepreneur travelling with purpose and expanding his vision through new experiences

There was a time when travelling from his village to Madurai city felt like a journey. Today, Sundaresh has travelled to more than 60 countries, including the USA, United Kingdom, Japan, Europe, South Africa, Singapore and Taiwan. Every journey became a step towards a bigger vision.

For Sundaresh, travel was never just about sightseeing. Japan taught him discipline and quality, the USA showed him innovation and startup culture, Europe inspired design and long-term thinking, while Singapore and Taiwan demonstrated the power of technology-led economies. South Africa reminded him of the resilience of emerging markets.

Each journey brought back new ideas, partnerships and perspectives that helped shape Elysium into a global brand. Yet, every time he returned to India, one belief remained: world-class is not a location, it is a standard. And sometimes, thousands of kilometres from home, he remembers the milk packets swinging from his bicycle handlebar — and smiles at how far that bicycle has carried him.

Chapter 10

The Learner Who Never Stopped

Even while building a growing enterprise, Sundaresh never stopped being a student. He completed his Master of Science in Information Technology (MS-IT) part-time — attending classes and writing exams while running companies, managing teams and meeting clients.
For him, learning was never a phase of life. It was a way of life. And what he learned, he shared.
His patents reflect the engineer who still loves to solve problems. His books and 500+ articles reflect the teacher who believes knowledge is meant to be given away. His 200+ seminars and workshops — in colleges, institutions and industry forums — reflect the motivator who wants every young person in the audience to believe that their background is not their boundary.
When he stands on a stage in front of students from small towns and villages, he often sees his younger self in the crowd. That is why he speaks with such fire. He is not just delivering a talk — he is keeping a promise to the boy he once was.

The Many Hats

Entrepreneur balancing multiple roles across business, leadership, learning and personal life

People who meet Sundaresh often find it difficult to define him with a single title, because his journey has grown far beyond one profession. He has become a Serial Entrepreneur, Traveller, Motivator, Trainer, AI Digital Marketer, AI Enthusiast, Research Analyst and Startup Mentor. Across 16 entities, 60+ countries and 200+ seminars and workshops, he continues to learn, build and inspire. Each role reflects a different passion, but together they represent a career shaped by curiosity, leadership, knowledge and an unwavering desire to create impact.

Behind these many roles is more than three decades of professional experience, much of it rooted in lessons first learned at a petty shop counter and on a milk-delivery route. From growing one company into a 16-entity group to mentoring students, employees, clients and young founders, his greatest motivation has always remained the same — seeing people grow. For Sundaresh, success is not simply about building businesses; it is about creating opportunities, developing people and helping others achieve more than they believed possible.

Chapter 12

The Road to ₹1,000 Crore

Entrepreneurial vision and ambitious growth journey toward a ₹1,000 crore business

For most people, building a ₹100 crore enterprise from ₹20,000 would be the end of the story. For Sundaresh, it is only the end of the first chapter.
His vision is clear and bold: to grow Elysium Groups into a ₹1,000 crore company powered by 5,000+ people.
But the number is not the dream. The people are. Five thousand careers. Five thousand families. Countless students, researchers, innovators and businesses whose futures will be shaped by Elysium’s work in three areas that he believes will define the coming decades:

He dreams of a day when a child from a small village in Tamil Nadu can grow up knowing that global opportunity does not require leaving home — that it can be built right there, the way Elysium was.

Epilogue

A Letter to the Milk Packet Boy

Dear young Sundaresh,

I know your hands are cold this morning. I know the bag of milk packets is heavy and the road is dark. I know you are tired before the school day has even begun, and that sometimes you wonder why life asked so much of you so early.

I want you to know that none of it is wasted.

The discipline you are learning on this bicycle will one day run six companies. The trust you are earning at that small shop counter will one day earn the trust of three lakh customers across 130 countries. The patience you learned watching Appa fix radios will one day help you fix problems for businesses around the world.

You will leave a good job with only ₹20,000, and people will doubt you. Let them. You will build something they cannot yet imagine. You will stand on stages and inspire thousands. You will travel to countries you have only seen on the television screens Appa repaired.

Most of all, you will open doors for people who come from places just like ours. That will be your real wealth.

So keep pedalling. The road is long, but it leads somewhere beautiful.

With pride and gratitude, — Sundaresh Kamaraj, Founder, Elysium Groups
